[Manga] Negima: Magister Negi Magi - Official Manga Thread

Alright, I think it's ABOUT time we got this thread rolling. It has baffled me (as well as others like Henduluin) as to why we didn't have a thread for this in the first place. Well, since we're in the process of creating that site, I thought that it would be perfect to bring in this much needed thread!

Rules stay the same; please include spoilers where needed in the case that someone may have not caught up to this point in the manga. As well, since we've missed only 198 chapters, if you feel the need to discuss something earlier, you're welcome to bring it up!

Chapter 199 came out at Aquastar: Grab it where?

Well, Negi lost the battle; and an arm ! Luckily, since he's in the magic world, the skilled doctors were able to reattach it . This chapter was also the scene for one of those awkward moments between Negi and Ako:



Aside from that, seems like nothing new developed around the mysterious friend of Thousand Master. Gotta wait maybe 'till chapter 200 !

Anyhow:

I get the feeling that the person who attacked Negi is related to Zazie, mostly because of the mask/facial paint matches hers. Also, the demonic thing fits perfectly. (Not just his looks, he also says that "it's been a while since a human has survived more than 3 attacks" which I think is an odd phrase if one is human him/herself.
Also, Zazie is pretty much the only girl in the class who hasn't had her own story yet. In fact, IIRC, she has only said 3 or 4 lines in the entire series so far, and with the big 200 coming up...

On a non-spoilerish note: I must say I'm pleasantly surprised by the turn the series has made. It feels more mature and series than before. Fanservice has toned down considerably and has become more tasteful. Also the fights are good and the story, although no masterpiece, is enjoyable too. I really think Akamatsu made the right choice by leaving the high-school setting and moving to a fantasy adventure-ish story.
Of course, it's still too early to be certain, but I think Negima has a nice future ahead.

I wonder how long the series'll be. I vaguely recall reading Akamatsu wanted to do around 40 volumes, which means we're roughly half-way through now...

Ah! I really need to read ahead with fanlations...I'm getting sick of reading a volume every 3 months.
When I catch up you can bet I'll be involved in here~

What I'm actually worried about at this point is where Negi's gonna stand in terms of his teaching. I mean, time is flying by; and the summer break for all we know may have already come to a close. What I'm wondering (and this is probably thinking too far ahead and won't happen for probably a couple dozen chapters) is what about negi's teaching profession? I mean, yes the change to the more fantasy setting is definitely a much needed change, but I wonder if Negi's going to come to school back on time or not? Depending on this, we'll either see an abrupt vacation where negi has to go back to school or there's going to be quite a commotion when Negi and company return to school 3 months late or something. I don't see the first part happening however, as it will be hard to resolve the current arc they're in (specifically the slave issue). I have a feeling this is going to be the longest arc yet .

It is kind of odd that we never started an official thread for Negima after all this time..
Anyway, I _really_ need to catch back up sometime. I am really behind now

To me it's pretty obvious Negi isn't going anywhere near the classroom any time soon, if at all. He'll either end up staying in the Magic World permanently, or he will only return to class at the very end of the series. I think his teacher job was more of a plotdevice to get him to meet potential partners.
And yes, let's hope so. I really wouldn't mind a One Piece approach to this series, heh.

Funny, you're probably right. Though I wouldn't be surprised if Magic world had that same "time chamber" factor going like at Evangeline's training spot. Just watch; months have passed, but only days in the real world . On par with watch you mentioned about Zazie, I personally don't see her coming in just yet, though it would be QUITE the twist if she did have some sort of connection to the Magic world. I guess it's just like what they say, "You always gotta beware the quiet ones" .
