This isn't a mainstream title, so I'm guessing not many people have watched it. Add to the fact that it's actually rather crappy when compared to the actual game and you get a show that only those who've played the game or has lots of patience will watch. That pretty much rules out MOST of the VI elites. Then, there are people like me, who will watch a show just because we like what it's based on, no matter how crappy it is. So here I go on my first truly unofficial, possibly nonsensical, absolutely non-artistic, I-have-no-idea-what-I'm-talking-about part review of
Xenosaga: The Animation.
Well, what can I say? They've actually kept pretty close to the original storyline, only deviating mainly for length purposes (this ain't DBZ, so we can spare the hour long fight scenes just to get from plotline A to plotline B). But, considering the fact that they squeezed over 20 hours of plot development into 6 episodes, you really have to wonder how under-budgeted they are. Average animation and lousy artwork (have any of you seen some of the in-game art pieces? It's like comparing a 5-year-old pre-school scribble to a Da Vinci), plus forgettable music (what's with the opening piece?) makes up the flaws of what could have been a good series. The voices does seem out of place to me, but I chalk that up to being more used to the english VAs in the game.
All in all, a decent watch if you have lots of time to spare (or if you're a hardcore fan), though only those who have played the game would understand what the convulated(sp?) plot is about.
