Yes it's official because I said so
This series has really captured my imagination from the very start. The artwork is quite outthere and takes a bit of getting used to. I've seen this style used before in the movie Kai Doh Maru but MoO uses it perfectly whereas KDM failed miserably. The plot is also quite new and fresh, something which gives it another tick in my book. This anime is sitting at #2 on my favourites for the year so far (Madlax being #1) but it could possibly end up as my favourite if they don't screw up the ending
So what are everyone elses opinion?

You all know mine ![]()
Right now, MoO is by far my favorite anime.
The background art is simply stunning, it's like an animated painting or something. I love it. The character art isn't too bad either... but it's not as good as the background art.
The story is very EVA-ish, but much better. It does freak my out from time to time though. It's... dark, really dark. And that's a good thing IMO. (well, for me anyway. I was getting somewhat tired of watching nothing but happy series)
So ehm yeah, blah. Unless they're going to screw up the ending (and they probably will =_=) this series is going to earn a place in my top 5.

It's a little too weird for my standards, but it's so intriguing i'm continuing watching it. It turned out to be one of my favourite anime of this season. I'm not sure if the chara design fits with the anime, but the backgrounds art is stunning.
Anybody who's interested in how the story goes by, I'm currently reviewing/blogging it at my forums [here].
Hmm... it's a long series, right? I think I saw a raw of episode 15 somewhere...

i like the series so far. everyone else summed it up quite nicely
its pretty interesting the way they have everything set up in the series.. and hopefully it stays that way.
it would suck if the ending wasnt any good :
And then it happened... a door opened to a world... rushing through the phone line like heroin through an addict's veins,
an electronic pulse is sent out, a refuge from the day-to-day incompetencies is sought... a board is found.

Eer... I didn't like the first episode, so I quit it after that. To me, it seemed completely illogical in every way... First they had that weird arrow thing, then they had some boy that turned into a bus that suddenly sprouted bull legs... umm... (sorry if I spoiled, it's all in the first ep so I hope I didn't spoil much
)
yea, the music and art isn't good enough to save me from watching this anime, IMO. >.> but then again, I judge a book by its cover. Maybe it gets better, like many anime I watch, but as so far I found the first episode intolerable.

I really like Melody of Oblivion myself too. I've tried to tell Enigmatic Cube to give it a try, but knowing him I think he probably won't
I'll just let him go enjoy his mad laxative (Hey, I watch that too.)...
When I watched the first few eps I wasn't very keen on continuing, especially with Sayoko being SO annoying, and some parts being so cheesy. The Monster Agents seemed so useless... However, I knew there must be something special about this, so I kept watching and I'm so glad I did. There's a lot of themes and amazing things you realise when you read thoughtful discussions and blogs on it, plus the story and characters get better and better as you move along. The artwork for the Pyramid Scheme arc (Ahh... was it ep 6-8?) was really good in some parts, IMO.
I really like those red tinges they had. It somehow melded in very well... I read on one Japanese blog about this guy's theory on the red tinges and various colours. (This is more obvious in episode 15. In case you're wondering I watch the raws/chinese subs, not just the English subs.) He believes it might be a representation of the Doppler effect or something, where red is closer to the Monsters. This does hold true in some places (e.g. the lighthouse in White Night Cape arc, the red light when we see that rather sureal sequence with Tamakorogashi in the Pyramid Scheme arc, and again at the Labyrinth Island in episode 12, etc.)
The show has many layers behind the small details, and I personally enjoy it very much. It may seem like it's referring to too many themes - Greek myths, the Chinese zodiac cycle, etc. - but the interesting thing is how that takes a more subtle backseat and yet melds in so well with the story as it is.
The music is also really quite amazing in some parts. I got the soundtrack, which absolutely pwns (except for about 3 tracks excluding Aozora and Smile for life). It's really quite an amazing soundtrack, and the point is, I think it fits very very well with the show. Not just the violins, the mood and theme...
Yeah. This show is certainly in my top 10, wherever it is, and even if it does suffer from some faults (I can't stand Sayoko and Coco!! Especially Sayoko. But then again, people in life are like that. They're not all that badly developed, but I think Sayoko's character could afford to be more deeply explored and perhaps more interesting. Also... some parts are just cheesy >_> [What the hell are those two Monster Union agents wearing in the latest arc? ARGH. Plus the whole powerup sequence and uh... Just Fit Ribs? O_o etc.])
BUT I really do think it's good. For all of the typical heroic nature of Bocca, there's a flipside opinion that it isn't all that good (Like Toune noting that he's all yelling, but no substance, and also the general people not liking it either.).
That's enough talk from me for now... hehe, I get carried away with this anime ![]()
Sayoko and Coco must die. Thank you.
Oh, and Fakia > you in case you didn't know.
